Eradicating Poverty: What is Our Role?

Featuring:

Sr. Margaret Mayce, OP

Event Date:

Thursday, February 16

“Like slavery and apartheid, poverty is not natural. It is a human creation
and it can be overcome and eradicated by the actions of human beings.”

( Nelson Mandela )

What actions are we willing to take to eradicate poverty? What questions are we willing to ask? Or…do we have so much invested in “ the way things are,”  that silence and inaction seem the better course? Using the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals as our point of departure, we will consider the phenomenon of global poverty, and its connection to both climate change and global military expenditures. Our conversation will be grounded in the principles of Catholic Social Teaching, and the Dominican search for Truth.

However, we will have to restructure the course somewhat. Below is the new outline. Once you enroll in the class, you can stop by the Center and pick up the books so that you can read them at your leisure.

This seminar will explore important themes in contemporary spirituality, concetrating on themes that are particularly important to Dominicans and to all who seek to follow God more closely.  See attached bibliography.
